Except for 8" grinder. I switched from a 6 to an 8 inch grinder. To enable sharpening on the 8" it meant I had to put a spacer block 1 1/4" thick between the grinder and the mounting board. Also removed the rubber feet on the grinder. I measure 7 1/2" from the bottom of the jig to the center of the grinder shaft.

To join the thread; I attach a sticky backed ruler to the bar of the Wolverine jig. When sharpening, write the ruler setting on the shank of the tool. Just slide the jig in or out to the setting on the ruler and have at it. Oh; Stick the ruler to the side opposite the base handle.

Position the leg extension of the Wolverine Vari-Grind Jig in the pocket of the V-arm and slide the gouge bevel up to the grinder wheel, with the grinder off. Visualize the material that needs to be removed to get to the desired final bevel angle. Position the bowl gouge so that material is first contacting the grinding wheel.
Without getting into the specifics of slow speed grinding and sharpening vs high speed grinding, the Wolverine jig is perfect for sharpening wood working tools for the wood lathe. I say perfect because it's well built, fast and accurate with a little practice. I don't have time to do all of the set up it takes for other grinders.
